Communal Playlisting In COVID-19 Times

In the ancient times just a month ago, some friends and I started a podcast called Playlisting. It is mostly an excuse for us to get tother and share music with eachother. But we figured we’d record and publish it because why not?

We got exactly one episode finished before shelter in place became all of our new normal.

Playlisting Pod #1 — Firsts

As we all retreated into our homes, continued to do as much work as possible, and mourned what we lost no matter how small, a need to connect swept over. So we took the simple priciples of our little podcast (choose a theme and build a playlist song by song together while telling the stories of why the songs were picked) and invited others to join in through the world’s new favorite app ZOOM. We picked he apropos theme of “Quarantine” and shared it with our friends.

The original invite.

The result was catharsis. A chance to take the simple act of sharing our feelings using the music we love to immediately make our febal descriptions universal. It was a beautiful couple of hours filled with laughs, levity, love, insecurity, and hopefulness. And while all of you who weren’t there can’t possibly enjoy this playlist as much as we who played Communal Playlisting together that night can, I know you can still feel the reasons these 24 songs made the cut that night.

As we wrapped up that night, the first question was, “When are we doing this again?” quickly followed by, “What’s our theme?” Well here it is…

Our next Communal Playlisting

This Thursday April 9th, we’re making a playlist of songs to sing together in big groups. The songs that bring us together as people. The anthems. The songs people across the world should be singing out their balconies in these “shelter in place” days.

If you would like to join, hit us up on Instagram at the handles in the invite above, or email us at playlistingpod@gmail.com.
